human rights in Iran...

Last week the Islamic Republic’s Minister of Foreign Affairs claimed that ‘we have no fear of the presence of the Iran Special Human Rights Rapporteur in Iran’, but on June 28 he stressed that ‘the Islamic Republic will not accept the Special Human Rights Rapporteur’.

Ramin Mehmanparast, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman also claimed in his weekly meeting with reporters that the appointment of the Iran Special Human Rights Rapporteur ‘was carried out with political aims and under the pressure of western countries’ and that the appointment of such a person is ‘in our opinion unacceptable’.  (Human Rights Activists in Iran – Jun. 29, 2011)
