Iran secretly executes 10 people in Evin Prison

According to reports, 10 prisoners from Qezelhesar Prison’s Unit 2 who
were transferred to Evin Prison for the implementation of their death sentence were hanged in this prison.

It seems that mass, secret executions in various prisons in Iran are
ongoing and the judiciary and state-run media are still silent about the
execution of these prisoners after two weeks.

The names of a number of these prisoners who were hanged on June 4 in Evin Prison are as follows:

1- Amir Masaeli, about 40 years old. He was detained in the notorious Kahrizak Detention Center for four years and was then transferred to Qezel Hesar Prison in Hall 1, Unit 2.

2- Esa Mosa Zadeh, 42. He was detained in the Kahrizak Detention Center
for two years and was then transferred to Qezel Hesar Prison where he was kept in Hall 1, Unit 2.

3- Akbar Khanjari, 25, who was detained for two a half years in Qezel
Hesar Prison’s Hall 3, Unit 2.

4- Ali aka ‘Little Ali’, 26, from Hall 4, Unit 2 in Qezelhesar Prison. He
had been detained in this prison for close to four years.

Death row prisoners are kept in Unit 2 in Qezelhesar Prison and according
to reports, all the inmates in this section have been sentenced to death and are waiting for their execution to be carried out. Unit 2 has nine halls and 700 to 800 prisoners are kept in each hall. This is while the maximum capacity of each hall is 400 prisoners. About 60 to 70 prisoners are kept in each cell. This section is so overcrowded that prisoners are forced to sleep in the hallways, restrooms, baths and even staircases.

The hygiene and food condition of prisoners is appalling and prisoners are denied the minimum medical treatment to the extent that most prisoners are
suffering from mal-nutrition. They are allowed to shop from the prison store
once every month where expired food stuff is sold to them for multiple times
the market price. (Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran – Jun. 6, 2011)
