Political activist dies as result of brain injury sustained under torture

According to reports, on Monday April 4, one of the supporters of dissident jailed cleric Ayatollah Borujerdi identified as Jafar Javadi died at the age of 35 after tolerating years of pain and agony. This young man was arrested in the violent raid to the home of Mr. Borujerdi in October 2006 and sustained severe injuries to his head. Despite being in critical condition, he was jailed in cellblock 209 in Evin Prison for 15 days where he was subjected to pressure and torture and was finally released because of his deteriorating condition.

Doctors were not able to treat his severe brain injury despite the fact that about 100 million tomans (about 100,000 dollars) was spent to treat him in various Tehran hospitals. (Human Rights and Democracy Activists in Iran – Apr. 14, 2011)
